Village Cumbuco, Ceara, Brazil
Cumbuco in Brazil has a beautiful and quiet beach on one side of town and the famous sand dunes on the other side. Behind the sand dunes you will see the greenery and mountains with waterfalls and tropical vegetation.
There is a small village centre built around the main square adjacent to the beach, which has a fresh fish market, tropical palm trees, some shops, several beach restaurants and beach bars (barracas). The hotels in Cumbuco are relatively small, the result is a nice tranquil atmosphere. Because of the ideal kitesurfing and windsurfing conditions in the north of Brazil you will see a relativily large number of people who kite surf in Cumbuco.
Climate
The state of Ceará in Brazil is also called ‘Terra da Luz’, or ‘Sunshine State’. With about 2800 hours of sunshine per year, the area is perect for a sun holiday. In addition to the clear blue skies, the tropical breezes that prevail from May until February make the climate very comfortable and not humid. In these months it’s possible to do kitesurfing almost everyday! Air temperature is around 30 degrees Celsius during the day and around 24 degrees Celsius at night, year round. The water temperature is around 28 degrees Celsius, so you won’t need a wetsuit for kitesurfing or windsurfing in the north of Brazil!
Ceará | Brazil
Despite being one of the smallest states in Brazil, Ceará has one of the largest coastlines, with a length of 578 km.
Fortaleza divides the coast into two parts. The coast to the east of Fortaleza is called ‘Costa do Sol Nascente’ (Sunrise Coast).
The stretch of beach from Fortaleza towards the west, about 400km, is called ‘Costa do Sol Poente’ (Sunset Coast). Cumbuco is one of the first villages along this coast. Other nice villages are Taiba, Paracuru, Lagoinha, Fleixeiras, Icaraí de Amontada, and Jericoacoara.
The population of Cumbuco is around 1600. The village is regarded as picturesque and scenic and is attracting both Brazilian and international tourism.
Kitesurfing
Facing onto the Atlantic Ocean, Cumbuco also has perfect conditions for kitesurfing, with mild air and ocean temperatures and strong and consistent South East trade winds from May to February. With hundreds of km’s of beach along the Brazilian coast, Ceara is worldwide famous for kitesurf downwinders and kite safaris, with Cumbuco as the starting point. This gives the Windtown hotel the advantage that it’s situated at the beachfront and let’s you enjoy the white sand beach as often as you like and jump on your kitesurfing board within a few minutes.
Other activities besides kitesurfing
Cumbuco is surrounded by beautiful nature. In addition to having a relaxing beach (kitesurfing) holiday, you can be active by visiting the mountains with beautiful walks in the jungle and along waterfalls. Or make the sunset horse ride trip of your life along the beach and through the lagoons. For sure you will see wild horses on the way. Also a buggy tour through the Cumbuco dunes is very worthwile. The driver will ask you if you want to add ‘emotion’ and, if yes, he will make it very spectaculair.
Fortaleza
For shopping, partying and a littlebit of culture you go to Fortaleza. It’s the fifth largest city of Brazil, with a population of almost 3 million. The distance between Fortaleza and Hotel Windtown in Cumbuco is approximately 30 km.
You’ll find some culture at Dragão do Mar. You can shop local handcrafts in Mercado Central. For locally produced clothing in small shops you go to Avenida Monsenhor Tabosa. Western style shopping can be done in a huge shopping mall like Iguatemi or a smaller and more stylish one Aldeota Shopping. Aldeota is anyway the most developed area in the city with stylish restaurants as well.
Very much worthwile is also Beira Mar, a 8 km long boulevard. Go there just before sunset and you will see many people doing sports, and the night market opens up at 6pm.
On Thursdays Orbita is the most popular club to be, as many students go there than. On Friday and Saturday it’s Mucuripe time. This club has six different dance areas and it goes on until early in the morning. So people who enjoy different things in their holiday: Fortaleza gives you the advantages of a bigger city and Cumbuco has the nice tranquil atmosphere and ideal kitesurfing conditions! Furthermore, the people in Brazil are very friendly, and do their upmost best to understand you, when you don’t know Spanish or Portugeese.
