Kitesurfing at the beach of Cumbuco
The beach of Cumbuco, is considered one of the best places in the world for the practicing of kitesurfing, with mild air and ocean temperatures and strong and consistent South East trade winds from May to February. Sand dunes behind the village also create a thermal effect and act to boost the wind speed: ideal for kitesurfing!.
Windtown in Cumbuco
Windtown is situated directly on the kitesurf beach of Cumbuco. In front you’ll find the widest beach of Cumbuco and perfect sea conditions. When we chose our spot we had safety foremost in our minds, with nothing downwind from you except for water and sand.
Windtown offers a ‘kite & beach service’ which means there’s always someone on the beach to pump up your kite, get you’re kite launched and landed, and to keep an eye on you when you’re on the water.
If you bring a non-kiting partner, he/she can watch you from one of our pool beds on the terrace overlooking the ocean.
When you need a break you can just leave your kite on the beach and walk in at Windtown for a drink, some food or a shower. And enjoy the view on the beautifull beach of Cumbuco.
Cauipe
The Cauipe lagoon is located 5,5 km downwind from Windtown and Cumbuco. It’s easy to go there by bugy, or to make a kite surf downwinder. There are always buggy’s there to bring you and other kitesurf buddy’s back as well.
Cauipe lagoon is a perfect place to improve skills. Shallow and calm water, beautiful place sand dunes, beach and lagoon. The beach has a pretty good area to launch and land the kite, no concrete, no buildings, just sand and coconuts trees. Only some cars can be park around the lagoon. Sand on the northern top and grass and barracas (beach restaurants) on the South side.
Taiba
Taiba is located at about 25 km downwind from Cumbuco. Take a day to make a beautiful kitesurfing downwinder to this village and take a taxi back.
You can also go there by taxi or buggy to kitesurf in big waves in front of the village, or on flat water kitesurfing on the Taiba lagoon.
Paracuru
Another nice day trip is to Paracuru, at about 40 km downwind from Cumbuco. You can go there by taxi, buggy or your own rental car.
The kitesurf spot is just outside the village. At the spot itself you’ll only find one restaurant, and further nothing but sand. There’s plenty of space to launch kites at low tide. It gets narrow on high tide, but to the left and right of the restaurant you will find lots of space.
At low tide the reef creates a natural sea lagoon with almost perfect flat water, it’s possible to kitesurf the lagoon and head to the reef crossing it and enjoying waves as well.
